A POS for hemp and CBD shops that sell flower off a scale.
Hemp retail is not dispensary retail. Most CBD, THCA and smoke shops sit outside state seed-to-sale systems entirely, so the daily problems are simpler and more stubborn: getting the grams right, keeping the COA attached to the jar it came from, and checking age before the card goes through. Budy does those three things natively.
- Priced by the gram
- Live weight from an Acaia Bluetooth scale
- COA on the batch
- Lab results captured, hashed and logged
- Age check first
- Runs before payment, not after
- Two months free
- Then USD 98 a month per store
What hemp and CBD operators tell us is broken
- Flower is weighed on a shop scale, then the price is worked out and typed into the till by hand
- COAs live in a folder of PDFs and nobody can find the right one when a customer asks for it
- Batch and lot numbers exist on the supplier invoice and nowhere in the point of sale
- Age checks depend on whoever is on shift remembering to ask
- Retail platforms take a cut of every low-ticket vape, pre-roll and drink sale
- When the internet drops, the counter stops
How Budy solves it
Per-gram pricing from the scale
An Acaia Bluetooth scale streams live weight into the sale and the price follows it. Eighths, quarters and loose grams all come off the same rate, with no mental arithmetic and no retyping.
COAs attached to the batch
Lab reports and supplier paperwork are captured against the batch they belong to, hashed with SHA-256 so a swapped file is detectable, and shared through links that expire after five minutes.
Batch and lot traceability
Every jar carries its lot from goods-in through to the printed receipt. When a customer or a supplier asks which batch a purchase came from, the answer is on the invoice rather than in a spreadsheet.
Age verification before payment
The age gate runs before the card is taken, not after. Daily and monthly purchase allowances are enforced per member, and a manager override is recorded rather than silently applied.
Offline-first counter
Each terminal holds its own database, so weighing, checkout, labels and member lookup keep working with no connection. Orders sync on their own once the line is back.
Niimbot labels with the lab figures on them
Strain, weight, batch, CBD and delta-9 THC print onto a thermal label in one action, straight from the batch record. Nothing is copied across by hand.
AI product scanner and strain profiles
Point the camera at a package and Budy fills in the product form. Flower and pre-roll SKUs can draw on more than 7,000 strain profiles for cannabinoid, terpene and effect data.
A real hemp shop sale with Budy
- 01 Customer asks for an eighth of THCA flower from the display jar
- 02 Clerk tips the flower onto the Acaia scale — Budy reads 3.5 g
- 03 The sale prices itself from the product rate ($12.00/g × 3.5 g = $42.00)
- 04 Age gate runs before payment, and the COA for that batch is one tap away on the product
- 05 Niimbot prints the label with batch, weight, CBD and delta-9 THC already filled in
- 06 Tap to charge — stock comes off that specific batch and the receipt prints
One movement, three things happen
Sample data. The weight comes from the scale, the price follows it, and the label prints from the batch record — nothing is retyped in between.

Hemp and CBD store FAQ
How much does a CBD or hemp store POS cost?
Budy is one plan. Every feature is free for the first two months, then it is USD 98 per store per month. There is no setup fee, no licence per terminal and no cut of each transaction, which matters in a shop where a large share of sales are single vapes and drinks. Budy runs on an Android or iOS tablet or a Windows PC you already own, so the only other spend is hardware you choose to add — an Acaia Bluetooth scale for per-gram pricing and a Niimbot label printer.
Can Budy price hemp flower by weight off a scale?
Yes, and it is the reason most hemp shops look at Budy in the first place. An Acaia Bluetooth scale pairs with the terminal and streams live weight into the open sale, so the price updates as flower goes onto the pan. You set a rate per gram on the product and Budy handles eighths, quarters and odd loose weights from that one number. Pre-packaged items in the same basket keep normal fixed prices.
Do I need to be in Metrc or a state traceability system to use Budy?
No. Metrc and BioTrack apply to licensed cannabis dispensaries, and most hemp-derived retail — CBD shops, THCA flower shops, smoke and vape shops — sits outside those systems entirely. Budy does not require a state traceability account and does not assume you have one; it keeps its own batch and lot records instead. If you also hold a dispensary licence in a state-regulated market, Budy reports sales, adjustments and waste to Metrc and BioTrack as well.
How does Budy handle COAs and lab results?
Certificates of analysis are captured against the batch they describe rather than dropped in a shared folder. Each file is hashed with SHA-256 when it is stored, so a substituted document can be detected, and every view is logged. When you need to show a COA to a customer, a supplier or an inspector, Budy generates a link that expires after five minutes rather than emailing the file around permanently.
Can Budy track batches and lots for hemp flower?
Yes. Stock is held per batch from goods-in onward, with its own lot identifier, and that identifier follows the product through the sale onto the printed receipt and the printed label. If a supplier flags a lot, you can see which stock is affected and which sales it went out on, without reconstructing anything from invoices.
Does Budy do age verification at the counter?
Yes, and it runs before payment rather than after. Budy prompts for the age check as part of the sale, records that it happened, and can enforce daily and monthly purchase allowances per member where you want them. A manager override is possible but is written to the record, so an unusual sale is visible afterwards instead of invisible.
What hardware does a smoke or vape shop counter need?
Any Android tablet, iPad or Windows PC runs Budy, so most shops start with something already behind the counter. For weighing flower, add an Acaia Bluetooth scale. For labels, a Niimbot thermal printer. Receipt printers, barcode scanners and cash drawers are supported over Bluetooth and USB, and SUNMI countertop terminals have a receipt printer built in.
Does Budy work outside the United States?
Yes. Hemp and CBD retail exists well beyond the US, and Budy is used in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Thailand as well. The website is published in English, Thai, German, Dutch and French, and the app itself ships in nine languages. Per-gram pricing, COA capture, batch traceability and age checks work the same way in every market — what changes is the paperwork you choose to attach.
What does Budy not do for a hemp store?
Budy has one VAT-style tax rate per shop, so it does not calculate US state or local excise, cannabis-specific taxes or layered tax rules — if your state applies those, you will need an accountant or a tax engine alongside it. Budy also does not process card payments, does not list your menu on Weedmaps, Leafly or Dutchie, and has no delivery dispatch. If marketplace listings or in-house delivery are the core of your business, Budy is not the right fit on its own.
Can Budy run several stores, and does it include loyalty?
Yes to both. One Budy tenant runs multiple locations with a shared product catalogue, stock counted per store and back-office reporting readable per store or across the group. Members, points, tiers and purchase history are built in, so a hemp shop loyalty programme does not need a second subscription.
