Cannabis dispensary POS software your budtenders will actually enjoy using.
Budy is built from the counter up for dispensaries — Metrc and BioTrack reporting that files itself, weight-based pricing straight off a Bluetooth scale, strain tracking with terpenes and THC/CBD, and a till that keeps selling when the internet drops.
- Offline-first
- Keeps selling when the internet drops
- Bluetooth scales
- Acaia Pyxis and Lunar, live weight
- Strain database
- Terpenes, THC/CBD, effects, images
- Metrc & BioTrack
- State reporting from the same tap
What dispensary operators tell us is broken
- Metrc gets reconciled by hand after close, or not until the state asks
- Generic POS can't handle weight-based flower pricing out of the box
- Budtenders waste minutes manually entering strain details on every sale
- Platform fees near $500 a month, plus a per-transaction cut on low-ticket pre-rolls
- Hardware bundles that lock the counter into one vendor's terminals
- When internet drops, the whole store stops selling
How Budy solves it
Bluetooth scale integration
Acaia Pyxis or Lunar streams live weight to the POS. Price calculates in real time. One tap prints the strain label.
Strain database with EAV attributes
Every strain carries terpene profile, THC/CBD %, effects, breeder, and images. Auto-fills on reorder.
AI product scanner
Point the camera. AI extracts product details, categorizes, and suggests compliance fields. Onboarding: 10 seconds per SKU.
Metrc and BioTrack reporting
Sales, adjustments and waste report to your state system as they happen. If the connection drops, Budy queues the writes and reconciles them the moment it is back.
Built-in compliance
Age verification before payment rather than after, daily and monthly purchase allowances per member, and manager overrides that are recorded rather than silent.
Offline-first POS
On-device database. Sells even with no internet. Syncs automatically when back online.
Voice assistant
Budtenders can ask product questions hands-free during consults — voice-driven search, stock checks, and member lookups.
A real dispensary sale with Budy
- 01 Customer picks a strain from the display jar
- 02 Budtender places flower on the Acaia scale — Budy reads 3.5g
- 03 POS auto-calculates price ($12/g × 3.5g = $42.00)
- 04 Compliance check: customer over 21, under the daily allowance — OK
- 05 Niimbot prints strain label with batch + THC/CBD automatically
- 06 Tap to charge — the sale writes to Metrc and the receipt prints
One movement, three things happen
Sample data. The weight comes from the scale, the price follows it, and the label prints from the batch record — nothing is retyped in between.
Acaia Pyxis · 3.50 g · $12.00/g · $42.00
Dispensary FAQ
How much does dispensary software cost, and is there a free option?
Budy is one plan: every feature free for the first two months, then USD 98 per store per month. There is no setup fee, no per-device licence and no per-transaction cut. Most dispensary platforms run several hundred dollars a month per location before hardware, and bundle terminals you have to buy from them. Budy runs on an Android or iOS tablet or a Windows PC you already own. The only other money is hardware you choose to add — an Acaia Bluetooth scale for per-gram pricing and a Niimbot label printer.
What software do dispensaries use, and what should I look for in a dispensary POS?
Most shops run a general retail POS with cannabis bolted on top, plus separate tools for labels, stock, and member records. The things that actually matter at the counter are: reporting to your state traceability system without a second data entry, per-gram pricing straight off a scale, a strain catalogue carrying THC/CBD and terpenes, age verification and document capture, batch and lot traceability, real-time sync across terminals, and a till that keeps selling when the internet drops. Budy does all of that in one app.
Do I need special hardware to run a cannabis dispensary on Budy?
Any Android tablet or iPad runs Budy. For weight-based pricing, add an Acaia Bluetooth scale (~$120). For labels, a Niimbot B1 thermal printer (~$80). That's all.
Does Budy handle Metrc / BioTrack compliance?
Yes. Budy reports to Metrc and to BioTrack. Sales, inventory adjustments and waste are written to your state system from the same action that rings up the sale, so there is no second system to reconcile at close. Because Budy is offline-first, a dropped connection does not stop the counter — the writes queue on the terminal and reconcile automatically once you are back online. Budy also handles age verification before payment, daily and monthly purchase allowances, batch traceability and label compliance data.
Does Budy work outside the United States?
Yes. Budy runs in Thailand, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands as well as the US, and the app itself ships in nine languages. Thai dispensaries have a dedicated build with a native Thai till and the paperwork Thai regulators ask for. State traceability reporting is a US concept — outside the US, Budy keeps its own batch and lot traceability from goods-in through to the printed receipt.
Does Budy work for multi-location dispensaries?
Yes. One Budy tenant runs several stores — shared product catalogue and strain data, stock counted per location, and back-office reporting you can read per store or across the whole group. Every terminal in every store syncs in real time and keeps selling offline from its own copy of the data.
Can Budy handle dispensary inventory and analytics?
Yes. Stock is tracked per location and per batch, down to the gram for flower. The back office reports sales, margin, and cash next to stock health — slow movers, ageing inventory, and reorder suggestions — so you can see which strains earn their shelf space and which are just sitting there.
Can I sell both flower by weight and pre-packaged items?
Yes. Flower products use weight-based pricing from the scale. Pre-rolls, edibles, and concentrates use standard pricing. Same basket.
Does Budy include a virtual budtender?
Budy has a voice assistant, but it is built for your staff rather than your customers. Mid-consult a budtender can ask out loud what is in stock, what a strain's THC/CBD and effects are, or pull up a member's history — hands stay on the scale and the jar. There is no customer-facing chatbot: the point is to make the human budtender faster, not to replace them.
What about loyalty and member programs?
Budy has a built-in member database with points, tiers, and purchase history. No extra software needed.
