Built for the people who actually run the shop.
Most cannabis POS software was designed to do one thing: ring up a sale and print a receipt. Budy was designed to do everything else — the inventory math, the shrinkage detection, the cost tracking, the daily reality of running a real dispensary.
The problem we saw
Walk into a hundred independent dispensaries, coffee shops, or specialty retailers and you'll find the same scene: an owner buried in spreadsheets, a register that only counts what gets scanned, and a quiet, ongoing erosion that nobody catches in time.
Theft happens — not the dramatic kind, the silent kind. Inventory drifts a little every week and nobody notices until the month-end count. Costs creep up while everyone celebrates revenue. Staff discounts that were supposed to be occasional become a habit. A supplier raises prices and it takes ninety days to show up in the margins.
Existing cannabis POS systems weren't blind to any of this. They simply weren't built to look. They were built to ring up sales, and they did that one job well enough that nobody questioned the rest.
The vision
Budy started with a deliberately bigger ambition: design the operating system for the whole shop, not just the register. Every entity that matters — products, stock, suppliers, members, staff, shifts, costs, returns — modeled as data the owner can query and act on. Every transaction recorded as a story, not a number. Every discrepancy surfaced the moment it appears, not weeks later.
We built it offline-first because we've watched too many shops lose sales to a flaky connection. The whole system runs on the device first and syncs when it can. The owner sees their data whether the internet is up or down, whether they're standing at the counter or sitting in a coffee shop across town.
And we built it AI-first. AI doesn't replace the owner's judgment — it surfaces the things that would otherwise be invisible. A smart scanner that catalogs a new product in seconds. A voice assistant that answers "how much did we spend on packaging last month" without anyone touching a dashboard. Inventory agents that flag drift before it costs you. The owner stays in charge; the software does the watching.
