Welcome to the Budy Blog: Cannabis POS and Dispensary Ops

Launching the Budy blog: deep dives on cannabis POS software, dispensary management, hardware, and running a modern specialty retail store in 2026.

Running a dispensary or specialty retail store in 2026 is not the same job it was five years ago. Compliance is tighter. Customer expectations are higher. And the difference between a store that thrives and one that just survives usually comes down to how well the point of sale actually fits the workflow.

We built Budy because the POS systems we saw in the field were either generic retail tools awkwardly bent into the cannabis shape, or compliance-first systems that treated selling and customer experience as an afterthought. Neither does the job well.

What you’ll find here

This blog will focus on three things:

  1. Operational playbooks — How top-performing stores handle budtender onboarding, inventory reconciliation, opening/closing routines, and the small daily habits that compound over a year.
  2. Hardware deep dives — Bluetooth scales, barcode scanners, label printers, cash drawers, receipt printers, payment terminals. What works, what doesn’t, and how to wire it all together without a cable nest.
  3. Product notes — When we ship something meaningful in Budy — like the AI Smart Scanner that cuts product onboarding from hours to minutes — we’ll write about the problem it solves and how to get the most out of it.

No vendor-speak. No listicles that waste your time. Just what we learn from building this product alongside real stores.

Why start now?

Because the market is shifting. Thailand’s cannabis sector is maturing. Specialty coffee operators are adopting agentic workflows. The stores that figure out how to pair a fast, offline-first POS with genuinely useful AI will pull ahead. We want to document that shift as it happens — and help the operators we work with move faster.

If there’s something you want us to cover — a workflow you’re stuck on, a hardware decision you’re weighing — email us. We read everything, and the best questions become the next article.

For a running start, the best cannabis POS software guide lays out our ten criteria for evaluating a dispensary POS, and the broader view of a cannabis dispensary management system covers how POS, inventory, members, and online ordering stitch together.
